HubSpot for nonprofits: the discount, donations and where the gifts go

40% off, with conditions. Donations through HubSpot payment links, and why a school's annual fund may need its own Stripe account.

By PaycoveOct 21, 2026 · 5 min read
In brief

HubSpot for Nonprofits is 40% off list price on net-new Professional or Enterprise products, for registered nonprofits in North America, Australia and New Zealand that are new HubSpot customers on an annual contract. Starter products are excluded and the discount can't be combined with other offers. HubSpot payments lists donations among its intended uses, and HubSpot's payment links can collect one-time and recurring donations of any amount. A HubSpot account connects one Stripe account, so a foundation that is its own legal entity needs its own payment setup.

Checked against HubSpot's nonprofit pages and knowledge base on 21 October 2026. HubSpot changes these programs and tools often, so the changelog at the end records each update.

Does HubSpot have a nonprofit discount?

Yes. HubSpot's nonprofit page offers a "40% discount off our current list prices as set out in our Product and Services Catalog." (HubSpot for Nonprofits)

The conditions on the same page:

  • Tier. The pricing "is applicable to net-new Professional or Enterprise Tier HubSpot products." Starter products and certain limit increases are excluded.
  • New customers. The organization must be a new HubSpot customer, and the pricing can't be applied to existing products or subscriptions.
  • Contract. It needs an annual term contract, a one-year subscription.
  • Region. The organization must be located and registered as a nonprofit in North America, Australia or New Zealand.
  • No stacking. The offer can't be coupled with any other discount.

To apply, HubSpot says to confirm eligibility and contact HubSpot Sales, mentioning the HubSpot for Nonprofits Program in the "What are you hoping to learn?" field.

Who is eligible for HubSpot for Nonprofits?

HubSpot's eligibility page asks for "a registered charity, nonprofit or non-governmental organization with recognized legal status," equivalent to 501(c)(3) status under the US tax code. It says the discount is currently available only to eligible nonprofits in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada. (HubSpot: nonprofit eligibility criteria)

The page gives examples of organizations that aren't eligible, and says the list isn't complete:

  • Colleges and universities, "with exceptions for foundations or nonprofit research initiatives"
  • Hospitals, healthcare networks and health plans
  • Professional and semi-professional sports organizations
  • Governmental organizations and agencies
  • Political, labor and fraternal organizations
  • Individuals and private organizations

The page doesn't mention private K-12 schools or school foundations. A private school, or its foundation, should ask HubSpot Sales before it counts on the price.

Can HubSpot payments take donations?

Yes. HubSpot's setup article says HubSpot payments "is designed for selling non-physical goods (e.g., software, services, events, courses, content, donations, etc.)." (HubSpot: set up payments, last updated 22 September 2026)

The same article sets the limits on who can use it:

  • Location. Businesses and organizations located and operating in the United States, the United Kingdom or Canada.
  • Bank account. A US, UK or Canadian bank account.
  • Plan. A paid version of HubSpot.
  • Review. "Eligibility is reviewed on a case-by-case basis."

An organization that can't use HubSpot payments can connect Stripe as its payment processor instead. HubSpot's payment links article says Stripe processing "is available for all subscriptions." (HubSpot: create and share a payment link, last updated 24 September 2026)

HubSpot's payment links article names fundraising as a use: "Drive fundraising efforts by collecting one-time and recurring donations of any amount." It doesn't describe a separate donation setup, so a donation link is an ordinary payment link built for the purpose. (HubSpot: create and share a payment link)

The parts that matter for gifts:

  • The donor's amount. A custom line item can let buyers "set their own price when checking out," set under More options.
  • Recurring gifts. A line item with a recurring billing frequency creates a subscription to manage the future payments.
  • Permissions. Creating links needs Super Admin or Manage payment links permissions.
  • Plan. HubSpot payments needs a Starter, Professional or Enterprise subscription.

Test the link on your own portal before you send it, with a one-time gift and a monthly one, so you see exactly what a donor sees.

Can donors cover the processing fee in HubSpot?

HubSpot lets you add a fee at checkout. Its checkout article describes a fee entered as a percentage, applied to card purchases, direct debit purchases or all purchases, with one fee per payment type. Fees apply to online payments on invoices, payment links, quotes and subscriptions. The fee is added automatically and shows in the order summary. (HubSpot: configure your buyer checkout experience, last updated 25 September 2026)

Two notes from the same article. Fees aren't added to existing payment links, so you edit those links or add the fee when you create new ones. And HubSpot advises: "Consult your legal and tax advisors to ensure compliance when charging certain fees."

The article doesn't say whether a donor can choose to pay the fee or skip it. If your annual fund wants the fee to be the donor's choice, check that on your portal first. Stripe donations shows how to work out a covered fee that nets the full gift.

Where do donations collected in HubSpot go?

To the one payment account the HubSpot account has. HubSpot's Stripe article says "a HubSpot account can't have multiple Stripe accounts connected," and that each Stripe account connects to only one HubSpot account. With Brands, "all brands must use the one connected Stripe account." (HubSpot: connect your Stripe account, last updated 24 September 2026)

That matters when the gifts belong to a different organization from the one running HubSpot. Can you connect multiple Stripe accounts to HubSpot? sets out the options for a group with more than one entity.

What about a private school foundation on HubSpot?

Take a private or independent school that runs admissions in HubSpot: the inquiry, the tour, the application and the family's yes. Its annual fund belongs to a separate foundation, with its own tax ID, bank account and books.

Three facts shape where its gifts can go:

  • Stripe ties an account to one entity. Stripe says each account can only be associated with the tax ID and legal entity of one business, and separate legal entities must create additional accounts. (Stripe: multiple separate accounts) A foundation with its own tax ID needs its own Stripe account.
  • One HubSpot account, one Stripe account. If the school's HubSpot portal is connected to the school's Stripe account, gifts taken through it land in the school's account, not the foundation's.
  • Stripe's nonprofit pricing counts what the account takes. Stripe requires at least 80% of an account's volume to be tax-deductible donations, and says tuition payments don't count toward it. (Stripe: fee discount for nonprofit organizations) An account that takes tuition and annual-fund gifts together should read that line before it applies.

So before the business office and the development office pick a donation tool, they should agree on which entity each gift belongs to, and whose bank account and books it lands in.

What should a school check before taking gifts through HubSpot?

  • Which entity owns the gifts. The school, or a foundation or booster club with its own tax ID.
  • Which Stripe account the portal uses. One per HubSpot account, shared by every brand.
  • Eligibility. For the HubSpot discount, ask HubSpot Sales, since the criteria don't name K-12 schools. For Stripe's, check the 80% donation line.
  • The donor's choices. One-time and recurring, a suggested amount or the donor's own, and whether covering the fee is optional.
  • Who reconciles. The person who matches gifts to the foundation's books, and how gifts are kept apart from tuition.
