HubSpot can now split a one-time invoice into a small number of installments that charge automatically after the first payment, as a private beta. It doesn't yet cover longer plans, plans that keep running when the balance changes, reminders before each installment, or plans started from your own website.
What can HubSpot do today?
As of September 2026, HubSpot offers installments on invoices as a private beta:
- A one-time invoice can be split into 2 to 4 installments.
- After the first payment, the remaining installments are charged automatically.
- It works on one-time line items only.
Quotes can also carry a payment schedule that creates later invoices, depending on your subscription. See HubSpot's documentation on quotes, billing and payments.
What doesn't it do yet?
- Plans longer than four payments.
- Keep running when the invoice balance changes. A credit memo or other change pauses future charges.
- Send reminders before each installment.
- Start a plan from somewhere other than the invoice, such as your own website or checkout.
When is it enough?
For a short plan on a single invoice, with a customer who pays by card and a balance that won't change, it may be all you need.
When do you need more?
When plans run for months or years, when the terms change mid-plan, when customers need reminders, or when payments for different locations have to land in different bank accounts.
How is it different from a payment schedule on a quote?
A quote can carry a payment schedule, depending on your HubSpot subscription. When the first payment is made, HubSpot creates draft invoices for the rest of the schedule. Later payments are charged automatically only if the customer's payment details were saved. Invoice installments start from an invoice that already exists instead. See HubSpot's documentation on quotes, billing and payments for what your plan includes.
What should you check before offering it?
- Whether your portal has access to the beta, and whether your customers can pay by bank transfer as well as card.
- What happens to the remaining installments if you issue a credit memo or change the invoice.
- What the customer is told before each charge, and by whom.
- How each payment is recorded in your accounting system.
Private betas change often. Check HubSpot's current documentation before you rely on any of this.
