HubSpot Brands, the feature once called business units, lets one HubSpot account run several brands. It needs Marketing Hub Enterprise and one Brands add-on per brand, up to 100. Multi-account management joins separate HubSpot accounts instead: an Enterprise main account and up to 29 more on Professional or Enterprise. Brands share one payments setup. A HubSpot account connects one Stripe account or one HubSpot payments instance, and every brand uses it.
Checked against HubSpot's knowledge base on 21 October 2026. HubSpot changes these tools often, so the changelog at the end records each update.
What are HubSpot Brands?
Brands lets one HubSpot account manage several brands, each with its own assets, tracking and reports. HubSpot's own article puts it as managing "multiple brands in one HubSpot account." (HubSpot: manage your brands with HubSpot Brands)
The feature used to be called business units. HubSpot's product page for it still sits at hubspot.com/business-units, now under the Brands name, and the knowledge base article still calls the contact property "Business Units" in its bulk-edit steps. (HubSpot: Brands product page) So older guides and community threads that say business units are describing the same feature.
What does the Brands add-on need?
From HubSpot's article:
- A subscription. Brands is for Marketing Hub Enterprise accounts that have bought the Brands add-on.
- One add-on per brand. Each add-on allows one brand. You can add up to 100 brands by buying more add-ons.
- A domain with each. Each add-on gives the account one more brand domain. Attaching it to the brand is optional. If you want to, connect the domain before you create the brand.
- Super Admins. Only Super Admins can create and edit brands.
- No undo. HubSpot says it isn't possible to turn off Brands once it's on.
HubSpot's knowledge base doesn't list the add-on's price. Ask HubSpot for a quote.
What does a brand cover?
HubSpot's article lists what can be tied to a brand:
- Contacts. Creating a brand adds a Brands contact property. A contact can belong to more than one brand, and a form tied to a brand sets it when someone submits.
- Forms, marketing emails and campaigns. Each takes the brand it was created in. An email's brand can't be changed once the email exists.
- Tracking code. Each brand has its own.
- Reports and dashboards. Both can be associated with a brand.
- CRM views. While you're working in a brand, the CRM views are filtered to that brand.
The article doesn't describe assigning deals or pipelines to a brand, and it doesn't say users or teams can be limited to one. If your locations run separate pipelines or separate teams, ask HubSpot how that would look before you buy.
What is HubSpot multi-account management?
Multi-account management joins separate HubSpot accounts into one organisation. Each business keeps its own HubSpot account, and the main account sets how they share. (HubSpot: set up multi-account management)
- Main account: must have an Enterprise subscription.
- Connected accounts: up to 29 more, each on Professional or Enterprise. A free account has to be upgraded before it can connect.
- Data mirroring: users can see contacts from another account, even when they aren't users in it.
- Asset copying: automated marketing emails, lists and forms can be copied between accounts.
- Workflows: a workflow in one account can create or update contacts in another, for example when a deal closes.
- Reporting: custom reports can combine data from several accounts.
The article was last updated on 25 September 2026. It doesn't mention payments, invoices or quotes.
Brands or multi-account management: which one fits?
| Brands | Multi-account management | |
|---|---|---|
| How many HubSpot accounts | One | One main account plus up to 29 |
| Subscription | Marketing Hub Enterprise and one add-on per brand | Enterprise main account, Professional or Enterprise for each other |
| Contacts | One database, tagged by brand | A database in each account, mirrored where you set it up |
| Marketing assets | Kept apart by brand in one account | Copied between accounts |
| Payments setup | One for every brand | One in each account |
Brands suits one company selling under several names from one team. Multi-account management suits businesses that need their own HubSpot account each, with their own data and admins, and still want shared reporting and workflows.
What do Brands mean for invoices, quotes and payments?
The brand changes how an invoice or quote looks. It doesn't change where the money goes.
- Invoices. If you use Brands, you can assign an invoice to one of your brands, and it takes that brand's look. HubSpot says you can't customise the brand for invoices created from quotes. (HubSpot: create and manage invoices)
- Quotes. The brand is set by the quote template. A template can be assigned to a brand to keep quotes and invoices apart by brand. (HubSpot: create quote templates)
- Stripe. A HubSpot account can't connect more than one Stripe account, and if you use Brands, every brand uses the connected one. (HubSpot: connect your Stripe account)
- HubSpot payments. Each HubSpot account can have only one instance, and all brands must use the same one. (HubSpot: set up HubSpot payments)
So a group whose brands are separate companies still collects every brand's payments into one account. Can you connect multiple Stripe accounts to HubSpot? sets out the options, and the HubSpot Stripe integration explains the three ways the two connect.
And with multi-account management?
Each HubSpot account in the organisation is still its own account, so each can connect its own Stripe account or set up its own HubSpot payments. A payment for one business is then taken in that business's account. That keeps each entity's money in its own account, at the cost of a Professional or Enterprise subscription for each one.
For groups whose entities already need separate marketing teams, data or admins, that cost is buying more than payments. For a group with one sales or admissions team, it's worth pricing before you set it up for payments alone.
What should a group with several locations check?
- Is each location its own legal entity? Stripe ties each account to one business's tax ID and legal entity, so separate LLCs need separate Stripe accounts. (Stripe: multiple separate accounts) One LLC per location covers the trade-off.
- Does each location need its own HubSpot data and admins? If yes, multi-account management fits. If one team works every location, Brands or a single portal may be enough.
- Where does each location's money land? With Brands, in the one connected Stripe account or HubSpot payments instance.
- Which books does each payment reach? One QuickBooks company with a class per location, or a company per entity. QuickBooks class vs location, and Xero tracking explains the difference.
- How are deals told apart? Brands tags contacts. A location or pipeline field on the deal is often what the money side needs.
