Stripe payout schedule: daily, weekly, monthly or manual

When Stripe sends your money, which is a different question from when your money is ready to send.

In brief

A Stripe payout schedule controls when Stripe sends your available balance to your bank. You can choose daily, weekly on set days, monthly on set dates, or manual payouts that you start yourself. The schedule doesn't change how long a payment takes to become available. That is settlement timing, which in the US is 2 business days for card payments and 4 for ACH Direct Debit. On a daily schedule, Stripe pays out funds from payments captured that many business days earlier. Payouts that fall on a weekend or holiday arrive the next business day.

What payout schedules does Stripe offer?

You pick one during onboarding and can change it in the Dashboard at any time.

Schedule How it works
Daily Stripe sends your available funds every business day
Weekly Payouts on the days of the week you pick, such as Mondays and Thursdays
Monthly Payouts on the days of the month you pick, such as the 1st and 15th
Manual You choose when to pay out and how much

If a monthly payout day doesn't exist in a month, such as the 31st in a 30-day month, Stripe moves it to the last day of that month. Payouts scheduled on a weekend or holiday arrive the next business day.

What is the difference between the payout schedule and settlement timing?

Stripe treats them as two separate things. The schedule is the cadence, for example which day of the week. Settlement timing is how long a payment takes to become available, written as "T+X" days, where T is the time the payment was confirmed or captured. Stripe says choosing a schedule "doesn't change how long it takes for your pending balance to become available. It only controls when payouts are sent."

In the US:

  • Card payments: 2 business days.
  • ACH Direct Debit: 4 business days, or 2 for eligible US users who turn on faster settlement.

So on a daily schedule with 2-day settlement, Stripe pays out each day the funds from payments captured 2 business days earlier.

How do manual payouts work?

You turn off automatic payouts and send money yourself from the Dashboard or the API. Stripe says manual payouts typically take 1 to 4 business days to arrive. In the US, a manual payout started before 5 pm Eastern can arrive the same day if your account is on standard T+2 settlement timing or slower. The limit is 10 same-day manual payouts a day, up to $1 million each. Other US manual payouts typically arrive within 1 business day.

Which schedule is easiest to reconcile?

Stripe's payout reconciliation report, which lists the payments, refunds, disputes and fees inside each payout, is only available with automatic payouts. With manual payouts, Stripe points you to the balance report instead. A daily schedule gives you more deposits, each with fewer payments in it. A weekly schedule gives fewer deposits with more in each. Either way, every payout is a net figure that you match back to its payments.

Does the time zone matter?

Yes. Stripe processes payments and payouts in UTC, outside Asia-Pacific markets. Stripe notes that the processed date might not be the same as the date in your local time zone.

What about a group with several Stripe accounts?

Each Stripe account has its own payout schedule and bank account. A group with a separate account per location can set them the same way so each location's deposits arrive on the same rhythm. On a Connect platform, payouts for connected accounts are daily rolling by default, and the platform may control the schedule depending on how the accounts are set up. See Stripe Connect.
